Angelic thoughts

I read Bill Shaikin’s article Sunday nodding my head in almost total agreement with the sentiments expressed by Angels owner Arte Moreno. I fail to see the obvious trade the Angels could have made to improve their roster.
But I do have a problem with what Shaikin didn’t ask and what Moreno didn’t say. That is, if the Angels won’t sign a $20-million player like Teixeira or A-Rod, why isn’t the front office working more intelligently to reclaim a Jack Cust or trade for a Jonny Gomes, as opposed to signing past-peak, ground-ball-hitting malcontents like Shea Hillenbrand during the off-season for $6 million?
