Update -- The up-and-down Avengers are coming off a 76-63 loss at Utah last week in a game that could have moved them into first place in the Pacific Division. But the Avengers turned the ball over four times and dropped into a second-place tie with San Jose. Quarterback Sonny Cumbie, who has 1,633 passing yards and 29 touchdowns with only two interceptions, passed for 315 yards and seven touchdowns against the SaberCats to open the season, but the Avengers lost, 66-58, at Staples Center. San Jose is led by veteran quarterback Ben Grieb and receiver Ben Nelson, who is second in the league in receptions (64).
