Shining more light on the issue

In reference to Jody Paul’s amusing article on troublesome first dates, I’m sure she misinterpreted the guy who came and lighted a menorah without explanation [“Date on a Friday Night: Trouble Ahead,” March 29].

I doubt he was trying to convert her to Judaism on the spot but, rather, he was celebrating one of the nights of Hanukkah. The problem wasn’t the religious difference, but that he was rude to light candles in her home without permission, then not explain the ritual or include her. He missed the boat on what could have been a very “enlightening” and romantic first date.
