No. 4 West Virginia 27, E. Carolina 10: Patrick White threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and the Mountaineers (4-0) pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Pirates (1-3) at Greenville, N.C., for their 11th consecutive victory. White completed 17 of 24 passes for 216 yards. East Carolina held West Virginia running back Steve Slaton to 80 yards, well below his 168-yard average.
at Rutgers 56, Howard 7: Ray Rice rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns and the Scarlet Knights (4-0) routed the Bisons (0-3) at Piscataway, N.J., to post their best start to a season since 1980. The 49-point margin of victory is the largest for Rutgers since Greg Schiano took over as coach in 2001.
at Pittsburgh 51, Citadel 6: Tyler Palko threw touchdown passes to four receivers and overtook Tony Dorsett for fourth place on Pittsburgh’s career offense list as the Panthers (3-1) rolled over the visiting Bulldogs (0-3). Palko completed 17 of 19 passes for 313 and his 88.2% completion rate was the sixth highest since the Big East Conference began playing football in 1991.
at Syracuse 34, Miami (Ohio) 14: Curtis Brinkley rushed for 108 yards in 15 carries and scored once to lead the Orange (2-2) over the Redhawks (0-4) at Syracuse, N.Y., for its first two-game winning streak in two years.
