Filmmaker Steven Spielberg, conductor Zubin Mehta, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and singer-songwriters Dolly Parton and Smokey Robinson were named Wednesday as this year’s recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors for artistic achievement. Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman hailed the five as “extraordinary international artists” who “have transformed the culture of our country and of the world.”
They will be honored at the 29th annual Kennedy Center event in Washington on Dec. 3. The festivities will be taped for subsequent broadcast on CBS.
