Border Guards Will Get Firearms

Canada announced it would equip border guards with guns for the first time.
Many of Canada’s guards along its 4,000-mile border with the United States have demanded firearms. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said it would take effect in September 2007.
Canada’s unarmed officers have the right to walk away if they think they are in danger. Officers abandoned four posts in British Columbia this year when told that two murder suspects from California were headed their way. The suspects were apprehended by armed U.S. officers.
