From Times News Reports
Utility crews scrambled to restore power to hundreds of thousands after strong winds and rains toppled trees and power lines from Maine to Maryland.
Worst hit was Long Island, where gusts exceeding 50 mph knocked out power to about 228,000 people. By evening, power was restored to most.
Tens of thousands in Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Maryland also lost power. In New Hampshire, a kayaker drowned in the rain-quickened East Branch River, authorities said.
