A 16-year-old boy was killed and four others were injured, one seriously, in a crash Thursday during an apparent two-car street race in Norwalk, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. at Shoemaker Avenue and Excelsior Drive, said Lt. Duane Harris of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s station in Norwalk.
The youth who was killed, Harris said, was driving a white Acura north on Shoemaker in what authorities believe was a race with the driver of a tan Honda Accord.
Deputies are searching for the other driver, described as a man about 18 to 20 years old, along with his passenger. They ask that anyone who has information about them call the Sheriff’s Department at (562) 863-8711.
Harris said the crash occurred after the Acura swerved, apparently to avoid another motorist, and then struck a Toyota Tacoma pickup that was heading south. After that, the Acura caromed into a pest-control company truck.
Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Acura dead at the scene.
Taken to a hospital were a 14-year-old passenger in the Acura, a person in the pest-control truck and two occupants of the pickup, one of whom was hurt seriously.
