Fond South-Central Memories
As I read the Oct. 8 editor’s note (“A Happening Corner in a Changing City,” by Rick Wartzman, From First and Spring), I was filled with fond memories of my 1930s childhood. My dad worked as a tire builder for Goodyear for many years. When I was a little girl, my mother and I waited in our car every afternoon for him to finish his shift and come out of the factory to meet us.
We parked on Florence Avenue so we could watch the Goodyear blimp float down to the ground; men caught the ropes dangling from its front end and turned it around, then backed it into its huge hangar and secured it. I never tired of watching what I considered the “main event” of each afternoon at the corner of Florence and Central avenues.
