No Charges for Officer Shot by His 3-Year-Old

A Los Angeles police officer seriously wounded when his 3-year-old son picked up his service revolver and accidentally shot him in the back will not be charged with child endangerment, officials said Tuesday.
After reviewing the case, prosecutors decided that charging Enrique Chavez of Anaheim “would not be in the interest of justice,” said Susan Kang Schroeder, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Chavez, 35, underwent surgery following the July 11 incident in which his son shot him as the pair rode in the family car on his day off.
Doctors placed a metal rod in his spine. The wounds resulted in paralysis from the waist down.
