What lab meltdown?

Re “Study Says Lab Meltdown Caused Cancer,” Oct. 6
As an employee of Atomics International, a division of North American Aviation, during 1959 and 1960, I worked in the Santa Susana offices and test facilities nearly every workday during that period. Although I remember there being some accidents, I certainly do not recall any lab meltdown. I do not think The Times has accurately portrayed the dedication and integrity of the staff during those years. It is too easy to take potshots at what happened 47 years ago, and one would expect good journalism to cool the rhetoric.
