Former premier’s trial underway

The trial of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and British lawyer David Mills opened with both facing charges of false accounting, embezzlement and tax fraud in the purchase of TV rights for U.S. movies by Berlusconi’s Mediaset empire.
Berlusconi, Mills and Mediaset Chairman Fedele Confalonieri are among 12 people indicted in the case. All have denied wrongdoing.
The trial was adjourned until Monday.
