Morgan Takes Senior PGA Lead

Gil Morgan shot an even-par 71 in windy conditions on his home course in Edmond, Okla., on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Brad Bryant in the Senior PGA Championship.

Morgan, 59, is at six-under 207 after making three birdies and three bogeys on the Oak Tree course to move closer to winning his first Champions Tour major since the 1998 Senior Players Championship. Bryant shot a 72, and Peter Jacobsen, the second-round leader, shot a 75 to fall into a tie for third at 210 with Loren Roberts (71).

Tim Herron moved into position for his second consecutive PGA Tour victory, shooting a two-under 68 for a share of the third-round lead with Tom Pernice in the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Herron, who won in a playoff last week in the Colonial, had a three-stroke lead midway through the round with four birdies. But he struggled with two bogeys on the back nine, which allowed Pernice (68) to match him at seven-under 203.

Women’s British Open champion Jeong Jang shot a six-under 66 to take the third-round lead in the LPGA Corning Classic in Corning, N.Y. She was at 15-under 201.

England’s David Howell birdied the last two holes for a three-under 69 and a three-shot lead over Miguel Angel Jimenez after the third round of the BMW Championship in Virginia Water, England.
