Girl, 17, Held in Fatal Multiple-Vehicle Crash
A 22-year-old woman was killed and an off-duty Los Angeles firefighter was critically injured Saturday when the woman’s SUV ran a red light and collided with the firefighter’s pickup truck and an MTA bus.
Police arrested a 17-year-old girl on suspicion of murder for allegedly chasing the woman, Shayla Phillips of Pacoima -- her apparent former girlfriend -- shortly before the crash.
Phillips allegedly was driving a Lexus SUV at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred just after 6 a.m. near Roscoe and Reseda boulevards. The firefighter, who was on his way to work, was in critical condition Saturday night at Northridge Hospital, a fire official said. The driver of the bus and two passengers suffered minor injuries.
