From print to film can be a real fish story

Re your article about successful transitions from the printed page to film [“Page-Turners to Blockbusters,” by Susan King, May 18]: One of my favorite films adapted from a novel is “The Ice Storm.” Many films from the ‘30s and ‘40s were based on novels or short stories. “The Letter” (starring Bette Davis) was from a play by W. Somerset Maugham. Although Hemingway’s books were made into films ranging from good to laughable, the best of the lot was “The Old Man and the Sea.”
