Supervisors Preserve AIDS Care Programs
From Times Wire Reports
The Board of Supervisors voted this week to spare HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs from a 5% funding cut that took effect May 1.
Federal funding to Los Angeles County medical and social services was slashed by $1.9 million in 2006, a 5.2% reduction from 2005. Supervisors ordered county officials to search for additional funding to make up for the federal cut.
There are 55,000 people in Los Angeles County with HIV or AIDS.
