Seafood Firms Charged With Squid Dumping
City prosecutors on Tuesday charged five companies with the illegal dumping of squid parts and wastewater into Fish Harbor in San Pedro, alleging it caused the death of all the marine life at the Southern California Marine Institute.
Western Fish Co., Seven Oceans Fisheries Corp., Del Mar Seafoods Inc., Tri-Marine International and Southern California Seafood Inc. were charged with violations of state law that requires squid wastewater be dumped three miles from shore.
The dumping cost the marine institute $74,000 in damages, including the loss of fish and invertebrate animals.
