2 Gunmen Open Fire, Kill Man Leaving Work
A supermarket employee died early Sunday, hours after being shot as he drove away from work, police said.
The victim, a 26-year-old Van Nuys man, was leaving the parking lot at a Pavilions market in the 6500 block of Platt Avenue when two men on foot opened fire about 11 p.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez.
The man, who was struck at least once, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a light pole.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.
His name was not immediately released.
The two assailants were seen fleeing on foot, Lopez said.
Witnesses did not offer any description of the assailants, and the motive for the shooting was unclear, Lopez said.
