Re “Church Abuse Screenings Easier on Undocumented,” June 22
I am just amazed at the thinking by the Los Angeles and Orange Roman Catholic dioceses regarding basically not wanting to screen illegal immigrant volunteers. I would think that after all the church has been through with the molestation scandals, it would be the last group to even consider such a move. To me this is really scary. I think instead of worrying about losing volunteers, church leaders should think about the horrible consequences of such a huge mistake.

Why is Cardinal Roger M. Mahony risking additional lawsuits with the possibility that one of the illegal aliens is also a child molester? If I were a teacher in the archdiocese and had been fingerprinted, I would complain about reverse discrimination -- another potential lawsuit. Where does the cardinal get the idea that he is above the laws? I am a very disillusioned Catholic.
