A prime opportunity for shady deals
Re “Private Contracts Take Beating in Report,” June 21
Your article on the report released by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Los Angeles) should have been on the front page with screaming headlines about the mismanaged private contracts that have wasted $745.5 billion over the last five years of the Bush administration.
The no-bid and cost-plus contracts are a scandal, and Congress does nothing about it. It is so patently apparent that the Republican-controlled Congress has too many friends and lobbyists that have reaped huge profits from these private and cost-plus contracts.
The war in Iraq is a wonderful opportunity for these sleazy deals. No wonder the Republicans don’t want to withdraw too soon from Iraq -- they have to make sure all of their friends get theirs.
