Padres closer Trevor Hoffman blew a save for only the second time in 26 chances by giving up Andruw Jones’ two-run double in the ninth. Chipper Jones hit two homers for the Braves, who have won seven of nine games.

at Arizona 4, Milwaukee 3: Johnny Estrada hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning against reliever Derrick Turnbow (4-5) to give the Diamondbacks a victory. It was Turnbow’s seventh blown save in 30 chances and Arizona’s fourth straight victory.

at Pittsburgh 7, Washington 4: Jason Bay drove in two runs and Jose Bautista homered among his three hits, helping the Pirates defeat the Nationals. Zach Duke (6-8) won for the first time in a month despite being pulled in the sixth inning.

at Cincinnati 3, Colorado 1: Adam Dunn homered, and Aaron Harang, who pitched his fourth complete game of the season, became the Reds’ first 10-game winner with a victory over the Rockies. Colorado has lost five consecutive games.

at Florida 3, Houston 1: In his third major league start, Anibal Sanchez pitched seven shutout innings to lead the Marlins over the Astros and Roger Clemens.

New York 6, at Chicago 3: Steve Trachsel won his seventh straight start, and the Mets used a four-run fourth inning to defeat the Cubs. Meanwhile, Greg Maddux lost his fifth start in a row and hasn’t won since June 9.
