Aceh Province Gains Greater Autonomy

Indonesia passed a law granting Aceh province greater autonomy and paving the way for local elections, cementing the terms of a landmark 2005 peace accord with separatist rebels.
But some former guerrillas said the law -- which allows them to run for office and gives Aceh control over 70% of its natural resources -- provides for less self-rule than promised by the government. They demanded that international monitors look into their complaints.
