No. 5 Connecticut Hands No. 3 LSU Its First Loss

Charde Houston had 22 points, including the game-winning free throw with 17 seconds left at Hartford, Conn., and No. 5 Connecticut handed No. 3 Louisiana State its first loss of the season, 51-48, on Monday night.

The Huskies (16-2) were playing their fifth game in 10 days, a stretch that began with an 89-80 loss at top-ranked Tennessee.

LSU (14-1) had no answer for Houston, who had a career-high 14 rebounds, three steals and a block. Connecticut led by as many as 16 points.

No. 2 Duke 84, Holy Cross 36 -- Abby Waner scored 17 points and Wanisha Smith had 15 to lead the Blue Devils (17-0) over the Crusaders (6-10) in a nonconference game at Worcester, Mass. It was Duke Coach Gail Goestenkors’ 350th win.

No. 6 Maryland 75, Florida State 57 -- Crystal Langhorne had 19 rebounds and 12 points, Kristi Toliver scored 16, and the Terrapins (15-2, 2-1) breezed past the Seminoles (10-6, 1-2) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at College Park, Md.

Virginia 78, No. 18 Virginia Tech 59 -- Lyndra Littles had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers (13-3, 1-2) over the Hokies (14-2, 1-2) in an ACC game at Blacksburg, Va. Virginia turned 22 Virginia Tech turnovers into 27 points and shot 51.6% from the field.
