Taking a bump and a lump of coal

I wanted to tell you how right-on Jane Engle was regarding redeeming certificates for taking a voluntarily bump [“Sometimes, Those Airline Vouchers Are Like a Lump of Coal,” Travel Insider, Dec. 25].
I have two such certificates from an airline, and I have tried at least four times to book a trip. I have even been flexible with dates and airports. Each time, I have been told that either there are no seats (as they only allow seven seats per flight for certificate travel) or it’s too early and to check back.
The certificates expire in May, and I don’t think I’m going to get to use them. Ridiculous.
Thanks for a great article.
