Ruling Allows United to Settle Plane Tax Claims
United Airlines can settle tax disputes with Walt Disney Co. and other aircraft owners for about $1.2 billion after a bankruptcy judge overruled objections from a group of creditors.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Eugene Wedoff in Chicago approved United’s settlements with Disney, KeyCorp and other plane owners that claimed they lost tax benefits when the carrier sought bankruptcy protection.
Attorneys for United said the airline had settled with owners of about 90 planes leased by the carrier. A Disney spokesman declined to comment.
