EU Sends Palestinians Some Financial Relief

The European Union threw the Palestinians a short-term lifeline to help it stave off financial collapse.
But the bloc made sure most of the $142 million would bypass the Palestinian Authority, sharpening pressure on the militant group Hamas to moderate its policies when it takes over government responsibility.
The largest share of the money will go through a U.N. agency to aid refugees, and the next-largest portion will pay energy bills. A smaller amount is targeted to help pay salaries.
