The Kaiser Chiefs, a cheery, infectiously energetic band from Leeds that helped lead a new generation of English acts to prominence last year, were the big winners in the annual Brit Awards on Wednesday, taking honors for best British group, British rock band and British live act at ceremonies in London.
Another touted new arrival, Scottish singer-guitarist KT Tunstall, was named best British female artist.
Coldplay won for best British album and single, and James Blunt won two awards in the competition, which is regarded as the British counterpart to the Grammys.
Paul Weller was honored for his contributions to music, while Green Day, Madonna, Jack Johnson and Kanye West received awards in international categories.
