Kovalchuk Helps Thrashers Rally
Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk and Andy Sutton scored power-play goals, and Kari Lehtonen made 34 saves to give the Thrashers a 2-1 victory over the Senators at Ottawa.
Senator rookie Andre Meszaros scored an unassisted goal 14:50 into the second period, but Kovalchuk tied the score about three minutes later with his 37th goal, moving him into the league lead.
The Thrashers were outshot, 35-22.
Tampa Bay 5, Carolina 3 -- John Grahame came off the bench early in the second period to make 28 saves for the Lightning at Tampa, Fla.
Montreal 3, Buffalo 2 -- Alex Kovalev scored twice, including the winner 39 seconds into overtime, for the Canadiens at Buffalo, N.Y.
New Jersey 3, Boston 2 -- Brian Gionta scored in overtime, and Martin Brodeur made 37 saves for the Devils at Boston.
Colorado 2, Minnesota 1 -- Joe Sakic’s goal with 5:44 remaining lifted the Avalanche at St. Paul, Minn.
Detroit 3, Nashville 2 -- Mathieu Schneider scored with 6:31 left at Nashville as Detroit defeated the Predators for the second time in two nights.
Dallas 5, Phoenix 1 -- Niko Kapanen scored three goals and Sergei Zubov had three assists for the Stars at Glendale, Ariz.
