Marina del Rey Has Little Room to Grow

Regarding “Marina del Rey Makeovers Put It on Course Out of ‘Time Warp,’ ” Jan. 23:

I have been a resident of Marina del Rey for close to 25 years. While progress is good and there are many old and tired looking places in the Marina, it appears that the rush to improve the Marina is charging forward with blinders on.

The traffic is horrible now; what will it be when another 2,000 to 4,000 people are added? Our infrastructure is old and cannot accommodate this increase of people.

The new condos and shopping centers being built in the now fashionable and uninspired “neo-Mediterranean” style will make the Marina look like another Grove shopping center and will be just as outdated 15 years from now as the condos that were built when the Marina was developed originally.

The sole objective of the county is to squeeze as many people in as little space as possible to make the biggest profit. This is also known as greed.

I invite the county supervisors to drive into the Marina during rush hour. Lincoln Boulevard is a parking lot, and all the side streets are equally congested.

Does the county expect all these new residents and visitors to come here by foot?

If county official Roger Moliere feels that Los Angeles County is not sufficiently milking its cash cow, perhaps he should insist on collecting the county’s full share from the leaseholders rather than continuing the sweetheart deals of the past.
