A 16-year-old boy was killed and four people were injured Saturday when an alleged drunk driver ran a stop sign north of Palmdale and was struck by an SUV, authorities said.
The 17-year-old driver of a 1997 Honda Civic was eastbound on Avenue O-8 just after midnight when he failed to stop at the intersection and was hit by a 2000 GMC Yukon traveling north on 20th Street West.
Jon Harrison of Palmdale, who was riding in the Civic’s front seat, died at Antelope Valley Hospital.
The driver was injured, as were two 14-year-old girls in the Civic, one critically, said California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Ramirez.
The GMC driver, Joseph Engel, 21, of Quartz Hill suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital.
