Give me a break
Re “Bakersfield follies,” editorial, Dec. 26
I disagree with The Times’ editorial claiming that schools have more important things to do than worry about what to call this time of year: winter break or Christmas break. I have been offended for years by what is called the “Winter Holiday Program.” We sing serious songs about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. We sing silly Christmas songs. We sing about Frosty and Rudolph. The Santa songs are more about the logistics of working at the North Pole than about Santa’s goodness. I agree that this can be a civics lesson. Is calling Christmas, a legal holiday, by its name “religion creep” or wisdom and common sense?
