Council rejects contract for renewable power

The City Council on Wednesday rejected a contract, potentially worth $196 million, with the Canadian firm Powerex that would have supplied the city with renewable energy equal to almost 2% of the city’s annual needs. Ron Deaton, the DWP chief, defended the deal and said it would have to be restructured to comply with a new state law, potentially adding to its cost.
