Patients get short shrift in changes to healthcare

Regarding “Report criticizes high deductibles” (Dec. 8):

Our country lags behind even the semi-developed countries in recognizing healthcare as a basic human right.

Republicans and Democrats alike come up with complicated forms of healthcare which, ultimately, benefit the insurance companies and the healthcare providers.

I work for a large corporation (more than 6,000 employees) In 2007 my deductible will be $4,000, and after that I will still carry a 20% copayment. The premium is still $6,860 a year.

All I want is the very same health and retirement benefit our “servants” (that’s what they call themselves when they run for office) in Washington have. If it is good for the servant, it should be good for the master. It is as simple as that.
