Griffin sparks Pepperdine

Chase Griffin had 18 points and nine rebounds and Marvin Lea scored all of his 17 points in the second half to lead Pepperdine over Colorado, 78-72, Monday night at Boulder, Colo.
Tomas Pranchiliauskas scored 15 points on five three-point baskets to help the Waves (2-6) end a four-game skid.
Richard Roby had a season-high 32 points for the Buffaloes (3-5).
Kingsley Costain gave Pepperdine its first lead, 41-38, with a three-pointer three minutes into the second half, but Colorado went on an 11-1 run to cut the deficit to 63-62 with 5 minutes 24 seconds to play.
But the Buffaloes failed to score on their next five possessions and Griffin’s three-pointer keyed a 5-0 run to make it 69-62.

WOMEN
UCLA 66, UC Irvine 62 -- Noelle Quinn had 21 points and 10 rebounds at Irvine to help the Bruins (5-4) to their second consecutive victory.
Quinn made nine of 15 shots from the field. Shaina Zaidi scored 12 points and Lindsey Pluimer had 12 rebounds for UCLA.
Naomi Halman led Irvine (2-5) with 16 points, and Stephanie Duda had a game-high 15 rebounds.
Utah 70, USC 66 -- The Trojans rallied from a 23-point deficit early in the second half but came up short at Salt Lake City.
The Trojans (3-4) forced 11 turnovers in the final 12 minutes, and a basket by Chloe Kerr made it 68-66 with 27 seconds left.
Shay Murphy had 18 points for the Trojans, and Kerr and Morghan Medlock each had 10 rebounds.
Kalee Whipple had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Utes (4-4), who committed 25 turnovers.
