Senior Pentagon official steps down

Stephen A. Cambone, the Defense Department’s top intelligence official and a close aide to outgoing Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, will resign Dec. 31, the Pentagon said. Cambone has served as a senior aide to Rumsfeld since January 2001.
