Writer Held in Iran Released, Official Says
From Times Wire Reports
Canada said Iran had freed prominent writer Ramin Jahanbegloo, who was arrested in Tehran four months ago and accused of spying. The Iranian writer is also a Canadian citizen.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs is pleased that professor Ramin Jahanbegloo has been released from detention in Iran,” spokesman Rodney Moore said.
Canada’s ties with Iran have been icy since Iranian Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi died in detention in Iran in 2003 after being arrested for photographing Tehran’s Evin prison.
