BriteSmile Postpones Second-Quarter Report

BriteSmile Inc., a maker of teeth-whitening systems, delayed its second-quarter report Wednesday and said it would post a narrower loss for its latest quarter.
The Walnut Creek, Calif., company blamed the delay on increased employee turnover and demands placed on management from the sale of some of its teeth-whitening centers early this year and the proposed sale of its remaining centers, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The company said it expected a loss of $800,000 for the quarter ended July 1, compared with a loss of $6.8 million a year earlier.
BriteSmile sold its BriteSmile Professional Teeth Whitening Associated Centers operations in March to Discus Dental Inc. of Culver City for $35 million. A deal to sell its remaining Spa Center business fell through.
The company’s shares slipped 3 cents to $2.28.
