CHP Officer Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver Dies
A California Highway Patrol officer struck in a hit-and-run collision died of his injuries Sunday morning, authorities said.
Officer Brent Clearman, 33, a decorated Marine sharpshooter and Iraq war veteran, was investigating an accident Saturday night on an Interstate 880 onramp when a light tan Buick LeSabre slammed into him, according to CHP spokesman Mike Wright.
The vehicle sped off and Clearman died hours later at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
Clearman served as a CHP firearms instructor. He joined a force of 200 CHP officers in New Orleans last year to help with Hurricane Katrina disaster relief.
Clearman was married but had no children.
