‘Forced-saving’ plans

“Making Saving for Retirement Automatic,” Aug. 2
In an era when fewer and fewer employees are covered by traditional employer pension plans, our government apparently now encourages employers to unilaterally shift some workers’ pay into retirement savings plans. Isn’t the Congress that is developing this legislation controlled by a party that until recently strove to limit the reach of government into our private lives?
Hopefully, the employees affected by such “forced saving” are not the same workers who have been slipping inexorably into credit card debt and filing for bankruptcy in record numbers.
