at New York 7, Toronto 2: Chien-Ming Wang (13-4) pitched eight more shutout innings to win his fifth straight start. Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada homered for the AL East-leading Yankees, who won for the seventh time in eight games and improved to 10-1-1 in their last 12 series. Bobby Abreu singled and doubled for his first two hits with New York, and fellow newcomer Craig Wilson added a pair of singles in his Yankees debut.
Detroit 8, at Tampa Bay 3: Magglio Ordonez hit a go-ahead two-run double and Craig Monroe added a two-run homer in a four-run eighth inning to help the Tigers (72-35) surpass last season’s victory total.
Texas 10, at Minnesota 2: Kip Wells made a successful first start for the Rangers and Mark Teixeira homered twice. The Twins’ Francisco Liriano, 12-2 with a league-best 1.96 earned-run average, was scratched from the start because of inflammation in his forearm.
Seattle 2, at Baltimore 1: Adrian Beltre hit a two-run homer to help the Mariners end Erik Bedard’s seven-game winning streak.
at Kansas City 7, Chicago 3: Mark Teahen hit a go-ahead, two-run homer and drove in three runs to lead the Royals. Teahen, who was three for five, added a run-scoring double.
