Ponder this, McKinney
Re “Going ghetto,” Opinion, April 12
“Ghetto” and “wench” have been around for a long time and have no specific reference to African Americans. “Ho,” on the other hand, appears to be a more recent usage.
Meanwhile, Rep. Cynthia A. McKinney (D-Ga.) is guilty of a number of things that have nothing to do with skin color -- forgetting her I.D. pin, arguing even though she was clearly wrong, thinking the rules don’t apply to her and getting physical with a Capitol Hill guard. Black people, whether they serve in Congress or not, have no monopoly on “acting foolishly” -- many whites have been expert at playing that role. McKinney needs to sit quietly and think a little.
