A 40-year-old police officer was shot in the stomach Thursday when another officer’s gun accidentally discharged at the end of a target practice session.
The wounded man, a 13-year veteran of the force, was listed in stable condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He was not identified.
“Hopefully, everyone will learn from it,” said Long Beach Police Sgt. David Cannan. Cannan said the officers were finishing up a day of training on the city’s pistol range and were “going to secure their guns” when the incident happened.
