Sect Leader Held for Promising Resurrections
From Times Wire Reports
Russian police have detained a notorious sect leader who promised to resurrect children killed in the Beslan hostage tragedy on charges of defrauding people who believed that he had special powers, prosecutors said.
Mothers of the victims demanded a legal inquiry after a seance shown on national TV in September in which Grigory Grabovoi said the children could return if he was paid enough.
Children made up more than half of the 331 people who died when a three-day takeover of a school captured by pro-Chechen rebels collapsed into bloodshed.
