A billboard problem written in lights
Re “Big Sign Firm Accused of
Corruption,” Oct. 23
From the widest vista to the intimacy of our residential streets, billboards dominate our life. It is impossible to open our eyes in Los Angeles without a billboard delivering a “message.” Look toward Mt. Wilson, look down your street, look at our skyline, look, look, look -- the billboards are everywhere. I believe that as a community we have a right to walk and drive our streets without being accosted by off-site advertising. Add to the current Regency scandal the fact that our own city attorney owes his office largely to a gift of billboard advertising -- all this and more plays itself out in the destruction of the beauty of our city.
It’s time to call not just a halt but for the billboards to come down.
