Campaign funding
Re “City Ethics Panel Urges Full Public Funding of Political Campaigns, Pledges Ballot Effort,” Oct. 12
Full public funding of campaigns for city elections is the only campaign finance reform that makes sense for Los Angeles. As Ethics Commissioner Bill Boyarsky pointed out, the current system is complex and requires significant enforcement. Besides removing the allegations of donors receiving political favors, a clean-money system frees candidates to meet with their constituents rather than having to raise funds for the next campaign.
Both Portland, Ore., and Albuquerque have a clean-money system. L.A. citizens deserve the same.
