Tips for fire prevention

In light of the recent wildfires, Chubb Insurance has issued some safety guidelines for homeowners:
* Remove branches that extend over the roof or within six feet of the home.
* Remove all dead plants, trees, branches and debris.
* Keep the roof and gutters free of leaves, needles, branches and other debris.
* Consider installing an external sprinkler system.
* Have a garden hose that is long enough to reach the house and structures on the property.
* Keep tools, such as a ladder, shovel, hose, rake, ax and water bucket, handy.
* Stack firewood at least 30 feet from your home.
* Screen all vent openings with one-quarter-inch or smaller noncorrosive metal mesh.
* Enclose areas under raised decks to prevent embers from blowing underneath.
