On August Wilson

AUGUST WILSON’S death while still in his prime is a deep loss to me [“Writer Is Stilled, But Not His Song,” by Charles McNulty, Oct. 4]. Most of his characters came from backgrounds very different than my own. Few had opportunities to realize much in the way of education or material success. But through them, Wilson spoke to the millions of us of all backgrounds who were lucky enough to see or read one or more of his many plays. Our lives are richer thanks to him.

IN his 60 short years, Wilson managed to brilliantly capture the complex black American experience. He leaves us a rich legacy in story and style, for which we can all applaud.
