The Runaway Bride and Her Future Prospects

Re “Town Without Pity Offers Hisses to a Runaway Bride,” May 4: C’mon, folks! Give the girl some slack. How much did the bride or groom, for that fact, have to say about the guest list? Were those attending merely there to repay the social obligations of both sets of parents? Or did the young couple really have that many intimate friends? Five-hundred invited guests, dinners, dance band, as I am sure must have been in the plan. Fourteen bridesmaids and groomsmen? All this in a small town the size of Duluth, Ga. Godzilla would have been overwhelmed! Sorry, but to me, a wedding is the bonding of two families, not the entire town, and should be a quiet, solemn occasion. The most important is the couple taking their vows.

My take is that the townspeople are angry because they were denied a huge spectacle. Chill out, and get off the back of a girl who was so overwhelmed that she went into a panic attack. Give her some space, and if you want to bill someone for the cost of the search, bill the parents who organized this debacle.

I’m not saying this just because the runaway bride spent a little time in Las Vegas, but I think if Jennifer Wilbanks plays her cards right she might really hit the jackpot over this little episode.
