A former union bookkeeper has been charged with embezzling more than $178,000 from Inland Empire construction laborers’ funds.
Leslie Patricia Bell, 39, of Palm Desert was charged Monday in U.S. District Court with taking dues paid by some of the 3,200 members of Laborers International Union of North America Local 1184 in Riverside. According to officials, Bell took more than $22,000 in checks drawn from the union’s account by forging the signature of her ex-husband, who once served as union president.
Bell is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Riverside this month.
