California is home to the four most expensive ZIP Codes in the U.S., according to a new list compiled by Forbes magazine.
Atherton, 30 miles south of San Francisco in the Silicon Valley, had the most expensive housing, with a median home-sale price of $2.5 million in 2004. Santa Barbara was No. 2 with a median home-sale price of $2.18 million, Forbes found.
More than half of the 25 most expensive areas are in the state. The Southern California towns of Rancho Santa Fe and Newport Beach were the third and fourth priciest ZIP Codes on the magazine’s list. Ross, in Marin County, north of San Francisco, ranked No. 6, with a median home price of $1.91 million.
